Hey everybody sorry I was late getting back to this, just a busy weekend..I was surprised that there were quite a few if you guys that were on the money with the answer..The term redneck came from West Virginia and the battle of Blair Mountain when the union coal miners organized in madison WV and marched to Blair mtn. in the thousands to fight the coal companies who were trying to keep coal mining non-union.The coal companies formed a militia to battle the union miners. So to tell friend from foe the union miners wore red bandanas around there necks.sadly the union miners were outgunned and outmanned and lost the battle and thousands were arrested but won in court. This battle was also the first time in history a bomb was dropped from an airplane. So ther it is like it or not its the truth to learn more go to historychannel.com.

Im from wv and my dad was in the union. It makes me mad when people call west virginians yankees, and they dont realize that that is where the term redneck started

i knew that. the term redneck used to be a complement that meant you were brave, honest, and stood up for what you believed in. Course im from WV thats how i know this. also did you know that the reason they even thought to where something to identify themselves is because alot of them used to be soldiers and they knew the importance of being able to identify foe from friend.
