my 1992 dodge dakota 3.9l fuel gauge wont work it jumps and twitches and randomly the gas light comes on and sometimes it acts like it reads right... what might be wrong with it? i think its the sending unit but sumone said its a problem with all the 92s gauge.

Typically it's the sending unit, sometimes you can't get them without buying the whole pump and sending unit as one piece. If it's separate get a sending unit, or check the voltage signal from it as you move the float through it's range. It should have a gradual sweeping voltage reading, if it drops funny or spikes randomly through the sweep it's the sending unit, if not it's in the gauge cluster itself. Both of them are very easy to replace with a little patience and attention to details, you can manage either fix in the driveway in only a few hours.

YOU MIGHT WANNA PLAN ON REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP. SOMETIMES THAT FIXES THE PROBLEM

It looks like the sending Unit and pump are one assembly. Bosch is the original maker for your truck. NAPA has them as an assembly, and are easy to locate at other parts stores. It's Part number BSH N67614

should be a carter pump as i remember, and the level sensor can be replaced without the pump. pull the sending unit and ohm it out and look at the level sensor you will be able to see where the little lines are worn out from running the tank low for 20 years lol. fix as required.
